Our quiet spell has continued with a lack of racing due to snow or rain throughout the country which has left us with limited options for most of our horses. This is normally the case around this time of year and hopefully it will dry up and better weather will start to come back!

Nevertheless the yard is still busy as ever with all the horses in work and we have plenty cute new members joining us in the cow sheds! We’ve also welcomed a couple new members to the team recently with Dorothy joining us to ride out in the mornings and our new farrier Craig. Dorothy lives locally and has her own yard and horses. She has been a great fit for our team. She hasn’t previously worked with racehorses but has taken to it well. Craig is originally from Aberdeen but did his training down in Fife where he had the chance to work with racehorses. He’s now back up in the area and has found himself with plenty to do but manages to fit us in weekly. He’s a keen horseman himself which means he has great manner with the horses and he’s managed to pick up their names quickly too!

We recently had a feature in the racing post which was a great spread on the yard and what we do here. It also pointed out how far north we are compared to other Scottish yards and the Scottish racecourses! For those who missed the article you can hopefully read the pictures of it down below (you might need to zoom in) but it was a lovely piece with fantastic photos from local photographer Vincent Lund.
