First week in February

Unfortunately, no runners this week as the ground seems to be soft or heavy at most courses within a reasonably distance. We were looking at potential races at the likes of Ayr and Musselburgh, but the ground is a constant issue at this time of year as most of our lot like the ground to be decent. A few of the horses are ready to race and we would ideally like to run them soon but we just need to…

Some Schooling

Finally the frost has left the ground and we have managed to get in a good few days of schooling for a lot of the horses. Motion To Strike in particular has been schooled as he will start chasing this year after a couple more hurdle races. Problema Tic even came out of retirement to show them all how it was done! Lovely Schtuff had been entered in the bumper at Kelso on Thursday but the ground was heavy so…

Spaces available in the Jackie Stephen Racing Club

Another week of winter conditions at Conglass, although it seems we have missed the snow everyone else in Scotland is having. Everything is continuing to freeze, including the staff, but that is winter riding out for you. This week we had the Jackie Stephen Racing club over to watch Motion To Strike up the gallops and have a catch up. We like to get the clubs together as often as possible, it is a nice chance for everyone to get…

Bright Prospect brightens the mood

Another week goes by at Jackie Stephen Racing. The weather is still not in our favour, leaving everyone very fed up and wishing spring and summer would come faster. Today at Kelso Bright Prospect gave us his best. He ran a fantastic race and jumped great to end up in an exciting finish and winning by a neck. We couldn’t be more please with him and a great first win of 2018! Mick’s Wish also ran at Kelso. He ran…

A cold start to 2018

The weather is continuing to throw us a little this week. With some bitterly cold days and nights, and some days of continuous rain the tracks are still very icy making it difficult to get the horses around the farm. The temperature went as low as -6 at the end of the week. Nevertheless, we are managing away, wrapping up warm and changing up some of the everyday routine for the horses and humans to keep everyone on their toes!…

Our last week in 2017

As the weather continues to be cold everything is still frozen. We had some more snow and wet patches which has then frozen making all the tracks very slippy and dangerous. Nevertheless we managed to make it to the all weather gallop and continued with some flat work in the school as the path to the flat gallops is too icy. We had Bright Prospect entered for Kelso on 29th December but we seem to be out of luck with…

Getting milder and a trip to Newcastle

With the snow all gone and the weather getting, milder conditions are getting better in Aberdeenshire. Spirits are running high on the yard as Christmas fast approaches. This week we had Midnight Kate run in the Junior Bumper at Newcastle. She put in a pleasing effort for her first race. She travelled down well with her companion Mattie and settled into the stable for the overnight stay. She was very easy to do at the racecourse and took everything in…

A first time run for 3 year old Midnight Kate

Today at Newcastle we have Midnight Kate in the Junior Bumper. This is a bit of a fact finding exercise as she is unraced and this should give us an idea of what she is like. As it was her first time travelling down and being on a racecourse we have taken retired Problema-Tic, better know as Mattie, down to keep her company for the trip.

Where have our colours been this week?

With Musselburgh being abandoned, due to frost, last Monday we had entered Bright Prospect for the rescheduled meeting this Monday. The meeting went ahead today but we felt with the frost coming out the ground it would be a bit dead and not his bag. Nevertheless, our colours still ran in CORNWALL. Lucy and LadyVie made their seasonal point-to-point debut. They finished 3rd in a strong ladies open race. Jackie and Patrick were down to give her a hand to…
