Sunny Days (hopefully)

What a nice week of weather we’ve had and with more to come that should give us better ground for the ever close opening Perth festival. Our local track will be back in action over the summer from 25th April, exciting news for chief lorry driver Patrick as this means shorter journey times! With the drying weather we have had opportunities to school some of the horses and hopefully get the grass and flat gallops back in action. An exciting…

A return to Carlisle

This week involved another trip back down to Carlisle with Midnight Kate and Motion To Strike. Both making a debut, Midnight Kate’s over hurdles and Motion To Strike over chase fences. Midnight Kate ran in a 2m1f race and  put in a great effort with some fluent jumping to finish in 5th. Still very green but great first effort and fantastic to see a horse we have broken and brought on from the age of 3. Motion To Strike ran…

A sunny Easter weekend

This Saturday we had two runners at Carlisle, Bright Prospect and Lovely Schtuff. Lovely Schtuff made his debut over hurdles, he ran up with the pace and put in a pleasing effort to finish in 3rd. A great start and some fantastic jumping, we are hoping the future will be bright for him. Bright Prospect ran in a 2m4f chase. The ground was softer than he would have liked but he jumped beautifully and finished in 5th. Both horses are…

A successful open morning and finally it feels like spring!

A busy week getting everything ready for our open morning, which happened today between 10 and 12. A fantastic turn out with over 100 people coming to visit the yard and see what we do here at Jackie Stephen Racing. We had a great morning, with the sun shining we managed to get everyone up to the gallops to watch 3 lots of horses and then paraded them all once everyone had a coffee to warm up! It was great…

Cheltenham, a newbie and our open day

A great week for racing with Cheltenham Festival. Jackie and Patrick took their annual trip down to witness some fantastic racing and to get everyone back in the mood for our lot to get back out! A great effort was made by all the girls to keep everything in check whilst the boss was away. We welcomed a new horse this week, Bermondsey Belle. She is a dual purpose horse who will be syndicated, details on this will follow. We…

Spring has sprung

Another busy week here, with all the horses in full swing and the world returning to normality after the beast from the east! All horses are working away well but due to the weather will not be looking to race until some better spring ground arrives. As well as the horses, we are embracing spring with calving almost done and lambing not far away. We would also like to invite everyone to come to our open day on 25th March,…

Teamwork makes the dream work

It seems we are always talking about the weather… This week it was our mission to beat the beast from the east and with a big thanks to the whole team, we did it! Without all the girls at the yard and the guys on the farm it would have been impossible to keep everything ticking over. A big effort put in by Chloe and Lucy to get here through the week with roads being dangerous and even some smiles…

Quiet week with an open day to come

A quiet week at Jackie Stephen Racing. All the horses are working away and looking forward to spring ground. We have had some nice crisp, sunny days which has allowed the horses to have some time out in the paddocks to stretch there legs, withoutgetting too muddy! We had a great write up in the business section of the Press and Journal today, which gave information on syndicate options and affordable ways of owning a racehorse. Great to have an…

Ups and Downs

This week has been a mixture of emotions for all the team. The positives of the week have been the resurfacing of the all weather gallops. Due to the harsh winter, they were in need of some treatment. They’ve been resurfaced with fresh wood chip and now feel amazing to work on. We’ve also managed to get some racing in this week. We had Motion To Strike and Midnight Kate at Catterick today. Motion To Strike was returning after a…
