Busy October

We’ve had a busy few weeks with races coming up for some of our young horses. We had Drogon at Newcastle on the all weather and were slightly disappointed with his run and have taken sometime to look into this. We had Kilfinan Bay at Kelso on Saturday making his hurdle debut. He hasn’t had much experience out yet due to being balloted out of bumpers before his summer break so this was a much needed experience for him. He…

Ayr and Perth

Its been a relatively busy few weeks here. We had Drogon our flat horse at Ayr for his first run for us and our first runner on the flat. He ran a solid race and was always up there but finished down the field however only 8 lengths from the winner, in a pretty deep race. This has brought his handicap down which will hopefully allow us to find him more races in the north. We also had Highland Peak…

Tough times

Horse racing can be a complete mix of emotions, with ups and downs everyday. This week we are very sad to report the loss of stable star Welcome Ben at Kelso. It is so incredibly tough losing a horse at anytime but Welcome Ben was a true star, loved by everyone here especially Jackie. He gave us a number of great wins over his career including an incredible win after a year off at Ayr back in May. He will…

Hellos and Goodbyes

In terms of racing we have been quiet over the last few weeks, however we have nearly all the horses back in some kind of work which means we have still been busy! We welcomed new horse Drogon to the yard a couple weeks ago, he has previously run on the flat and will continue to do this meaning he is our first official flat horse! He’s a lovely character and is fitting into life in Aberdeenshire very well. This…

Nobody likes rain in summer

Its been quiet at Conglass over the last week, with no much racing happening some of the horses are having an easier spell. We ran a few horses over the two day meeting at Perth 30th and 31st July. We had Palixandre and Highland Peak on the Tuesday evening meeting. Palixandre is a very strong and hot headed horse and so ended up leading for majority of his race but then found nothing in the finish and ended up finishing…

End of July

This past week we have been relatively quiet in the sense of racing but busy at home. We had our staff BBQ on Thursday night which was a great with good food and lovely to see everyone outside of the yard. We also managed to pick the right week with the heatwave and temperatures hitting highs of 27 degrees! We’ve had great success with breaking the youngsters we bought back in May and the girls have been working hard to…

Back to Perth

Last week we had 3 horses down at Perth – Bermondsey Belle, Welcome Ben and Highland Peak. Bermondsey Belle ran rather disappointingly, not showing much engagement with the race and pulled up. Welcome Ben ran in his usual fashion, setting the pace out front and jumping well however he didn’t have much left after the second last and ended up finishing 4th. Highland Peak was unfortunate as at the first he jumped well but was very close to others and…

Kelso 8th October 2017

On Sunday 8th October we headed off to Kelso with Asum and Highland Peak. Asum ran for the first time for us in a 2m hurdle. He travelled well but unfortunately could not finish competitively due to bleeding and ended up in 7th. This is something we will now look into further and try to resolve. Highland Peak ran a competitive race in the front division but tired towards the end and finished in 6th. It is likely he will…

Perth 11/9/17

On Monday the 11th we ran Amilliontimes and Micks Wish at Perth. Amilliontimes ran in a 3m chase which was a step up in trip for him. We were delighted with his performance as he was up against some tough competition and managed to keep on for 4th. Micks Wish ran in his second bumper and seemed to settle more and ended up finishing 5th. He is now getting the hang of racing and should be able to progress from…

Hexham 21st August

Yesterday evening we ran Mo Rouge and Micks Wish at Hexham. Mo Rouge returned back to hurdles and was rather disappointing as he didn’t show a lot of interest. Micks Wish ran an enthusiastic race for the first time for the Northern Lights Racing club. He learnt lots and ended up finishing 6th. We are delighted with this performance for his first race under rules.
