We have moved!

We are delighted to say we are now officially training from Firth Farm, Lilliesleaf in the Scottish Borders. The move took a while with the re-roofing of a shed, new stables and dismantling of previous stabling at Conglass but all the horses have moved and we have now settled into life at Firth. We have been a bit slow with our social media and website updates but will try to keep them up-to-date a little more now. Its been a…

Two winners in a week

Last week provided us with one of the best weeks we’ve had in a long time. After what seemed like an eternity without runners due to COVID, we have finally been getting back to our usual busy summer with the jumpers. And to top it all off we had two winners in one week, which has given the team a well deserved boost. A winner is always a boost but when, especially as a small yard, you have two in…

Ticking away

Its business as usual here with some horses being aimed at the first Scottish jumps meeting at Perth on 21st July. We recently brought our two 4 years back into work. Both have been behaving well and remember what its like to be ridden! We also named them, we have Lock down Luke and Dunnottar Castle, both fitting names due to the current situation and our local area. Thats all the horses back in work and seems like a long…

Racing resumes

Flat racing started up again yesterday and it looks like Newcastle did a fantastic job of starting the flat season off. Its great to have racing back on with new rules in place ensuring the safety of all involved. For us, its looking like Perth will likely be our first meeting, which is scheduled for July 21st. Looking forward to getting some of our summer jumpers back out to a great track and resuming some kind of new normality. In…

With racing suspended until July for national hunt and early May for the flat we have been relatively quiet on the yard. We’ve furloughed some of the team and turned away most of the horses for some holiday time. Not that they are complaining because the weather has been super for them. Sunshine most days, warm temperatures and very little rain – they have been very lucky really! We have kept 6 horses in light work for the time being,…

Some new faces and our racing post article

Our quiet spell has continued with a lack of racing due to snow or rain throughout the country which has left us with limited options for most of our horses. This is normally the case around this time of year and hopefully it will dry up and better weather will start to come back! Nevertheless the yard is still busy as ever with all the horses in work and we have plenty cute new members joining us in the cow…

February Update

It’s been a quiet few weeks here with not much racing for us. We’ve been battling with the weather with storm Ciara and now storm Dennis, although it looks like Aberdeenshire didn’t get as affected by storm Ciara as some other places further south – a change for once! All the horses have been working well though considering the tough weather and hopefully some drier days will come and we will have some runners soon. We may be quiet on…

Happy new year to all! Thank you to our owners, followers and staff for the continued support and hard work throughout the ups and downs of 2019. We hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed some time with family and friends. On Sunday 29th we finished the decade with a trip to Kelso where Scullys Forge travelled sweetly through his 2m6f maiden hurdle to finish a gallant 3rd. This was really pleasing progress from him as he is made…

November Blues

The cold weather was back this weekend with temperatures dropping to -5 through the night. On Tuesday we had Lovely Schtuff at Sedegefield, unfortunately the weather had been wetter than expected and the ground was heavy but having travelled down the night before we took the decision to run him even though the ground wasn’t ideal. He was slightly race rusty and ballooned the first. However he did settle into his race but disappointedly pulled up. We will have a…

Cold November

Winter is here, with the darker nights and colder weather back again. This hasn’t stopped us though, still riding out everyday in all weather conditions to get the best out of each horse. We had a good few horses making their hurdling debut of the last few weeks as we have quite a young team of horses currently. This is an exciting time seeing how they go and we were very happy with how they all went. Schiehallion Ridge and…
