September already

How is it September already? A rare start to September at Conglass with Harvest being finished on the 1st, the earliest finish in a very long time. This leaves plenty of stubble fields for the horses to enjoy. We took this opportunity to school a few of the horses over the hurdles. This was a great chance to get some of the newer horses out such as Brindane High and Starozov. They all jumped well and showed great promise. We’ve…

All kinds of busy

Its been busy as ever at Conglass, not only with the horses but harvest is in full swing as well. This brings its perks for the horses as it gives nice stubble fields for canter work and jumping. Welcome Ben and Bright Prospect have also been brought back into work after a break, both happy to be back in action. The two 3 year olds, Mylo and Leo are having a short break after being broken and getting them used…

Perth

On Saturday we had Highland Peak and Amilliontimes at Perth. Highland Peak ran a little bit of a flat race but he seems afterwards and we will just give him a little bit longer before his next race. Amilliontimes ran a good race to finish in 4th. He is always consistent and tries his hardest, this was a pleasing effort from him and we will look for some more rans from him before the softer ground comes. All other horses…

New addition

We are delighted to say that after the Goffs sale on Wednesday we have returned with Starozov. He is a 5 year old, Bay Gelding who is settling in nicely having arrived on Thursday evening. He will run for the Jackie Stephen Racing Club. It was a mixed sale but we are happy to have been able to bring home an exciting prospect for the club and a nice horse to add to the yard. As well as the sale…

Teeth and surprise visitors!

As ever a busy week at Jackie Stephen Racing. We’ve had the equine dentist in to check everyones teeth, this can be vital for a horse as any discomfort in the mouth can cause lack of concentration and abnormal behaviour. The two new youngsters had some treatment and are now feeling much more comfortable. These two will be named in the near future with the idea to run next year. Highland Peak runs at Perth tomorrow in a 3mile hurdle…

A tough game

Its with great sadness that we report the loss of Motion To Strike at Cartmel on Saturday. He unfortunately shattered his cannon bone and down into the joint, so sadly there was nothing we could have done for him. He will be missed hugely by everyone on the yard, especially Jackie who rode him everyday and worked hard to get him to perform so well over his last few runs. It is never easy losing a horse but it is…

Back to Perth

On Sunday we had Ballinvegga back down to Perth. He ran in a 3m chase, he made the running and jumped well to finish in 3rd. A pleasing result as this was his second run back after a lengthy period off due to injury. We will hopefully have two runners at Cartmel on Saturday – weather depending! Motion to Strike is due to run at Cartmel, looking for a good run from him. LadyVie will make her debut under rules…

Sunny days and Perth

We hope you’ve all been enjoying the weather as much as we have, although Aberdeenshire seems to be going through a cooler patch, not that anyone is complaining! Its been busy as always here with horses in full swing. We had Highland Peak and Amilliontimes at Perth on Thursday. Highland Peak ran a superb race up front, jumping fantastically until unfortunately he was brought down at the last. A slight collision and a dramatic fall but nevertheless he seems to…

A busy weekend – Perth and Hexham

This week we had 3 runners across the north. Motion To Strike ran on Saturday at Perth, he ran another great race and an exciting finish to be pipped at the post again and finish in 2nd. We then had Lovely Schtuff and Amilliontimes at Hexham on Sunday. Lovely Schtuff ran a good race to finish 4th, he will now go on holiday for a while to give him a break and allow him to race again fresh when the…

quiet but productive

Its been a quiet June in terms of races for our lot. It should hopefully pick up again with a Perth on Saturday and Hexham Sunday. As we are so far from the real centre of racing down south we rely on Northern courses to have as many races to suit all types throughout the season. This can sometimes leave us with quieter patches but that doesn’t mean everyone isn’t working hard, all the horses are continuing to perform well…
