Kelso

On Sunday we had Lovely Schtuff and Bright Prospect at Kelso. Lovely Schtuff made his debut over chase fences and Bright Prospect ran in the Borders National. Lovely Schtuff started off keenly, settled after the second fence and continued to jump well throughout. It was a pleasing run for his first outing and he finished up in 5th. Bright Prospect also ran a good race. He was up with the pace and jumped fantastically, but probably didn’t see out the 4…

December

We’ve had a lot of rain recently, which has lead to us not running a few of the horses due to the ground being softer than they would like. Nevertheless the ones in work are all fit and ready we just need to hope for some drier patches and better ground. The gallops are having a little refurb to allow for better drainage now the winter and bad weather has set in. Lets hope winter isn’t a snowy as last…

Ayr and Wetherby

Last week we had Bridane High and Lovely Schtuff entered at Ayr, both horses went down but unfortunately due to a lot of rain we didn’t run Lovely Schtuff. We did run Bridane High and he put in a solid effort to complete and finish in 5th in wet conditions with a lot of horses not managing to complete. Bright Prospect ran at Wetherby on Saturday. He ran a great race leading all the way and jumping some of the…

Back to Kelso

On Saturday we took Starozov back to Kelso. He had a step up in trip and it seemed to suit him well. He ran a good race, jumped ok and ran on at the end to finish in 2nd. His first two runs for us and over hurdles have been good and it is great to see him and others on the yard running well, its also great for the Jackie Stephen Racing Club to be back in full swing.…

Carlisle and Kelso

This week we had 4 runners, a nice change for what seems like a quiet patch. First on Thursday we had Amilliontimes and Bright Prospect at Carlisle. Amilliontimes ran well in a decent paced race. He jumped well and was his usual consistent self, he always tries his hardest gaining on the other horses and ended up finishing 5th. Bright Prospect ran a pleasing race as he has been off after a long break. It was a solid performance for…

Some Schooling

Unfortunately due to storm Callum giving us some horrible weather across the country we did not go to Hexham with any horses on Saturday. This was disappointing for us we have horses ready to run. There are other option as Carlisle, Kelso and Sedgefield are getting going. Nevertheless, after the storm we had some much nicer weather and we have managed to fit in plenty of schooling this week to keep all the horses fresh for any possible upcoming runs.…

October

This week Patrick attended a National Trainers Federation (NTF) training course about business management. This was a valuable day with good hospitality from both hosts Kelso racecourse and NTF. The course had some insight into leadership and management within the racing industry but that can also be applied to all situations. In racing we are lucky to have the NTF as they regularly put on courses and meetings to hear thoughts and meet with trainers. Majority of the horses are…

Perth’s Finale

Last week saw the end of Perth racecourses season and we said goodbye to our shortest journey time of 2hrs! Unfortunately, we only had one runner over the two days but as per normal Amilliontimes did not disappoint. He ran a good race with Brian Hughes aboard. He ran in mid-div, jumping to his normal high standard and finished strong to end up 3rd in an exciting finish. He is a consistent horse who always gives his most in races,…

Back to Kelso

We were back to Kelso on Wednesday for their twilight meeting which was their first since May. The borders track have to be congratulated on spending a large amount of money on improving the paddock and winners enclosure and although not quite completed yet the new facility will provide greatly enhanced viewing of the horses before and after races for the large knowledgeable crowds that attend Kelso. Bridane High made his stable debut in the bumper and finished a respectable…

Building Up

With a bit of a lull in racing in the North we have been busy building up the work for the horses which have either been on a break or are returning from injury. Nearly all on the wood chip gallops as the dry weather continues and all the grass gallops are very firm. Alex Garven has been away for a month at a course at Newmarket which will have helped build up her knowledge of the racing industry! The…
