This week we had Schiehallion Ridge and Kilfinan Bay making their debuts in the divided bumper on the last day of the 2019 Perth Festival. Both of them took it in their stride, this being the first time they’ve been away from the yard since arriving last May. Schiehallion Ridge travelled well until the pace quickened and he couldn’t keep up so faded but it was a learning experience and it is likely he will go on to hurdling quite…

Spring has really sprung!

The past few days have brought lovely weather to Aberdeenshire, a nice treat for easter weekend! We took advantage of this by taking 4 horses to the beach for a fun trip for staff and horses in the sunshine. Highland Peak and Welcome Ben, experienced in beach trips, were leads to Schiehallion Ridge and the newly named Kilfinan Bay who as youngsters hadn’t ventured to the beach yet. This was a great experience for both of them and good practise…

On Saturday we were back to Kelso with 3 runners – Lovely Schtuff, Highland Peak and Welcome Ben. Lovely Schtuff and Highland Peak were in the same race. Highland Peak jumped superbly and ran in mid division for most of the way – he tired slightly towards the end but ran on to finish in 5th. This was an encouraging run from him and we are happy with his progress as a chaser. Lovely Schtuff looked to settle well at…

Friars Haugh and Open Morning

This weekend we had LadyVie and Lucy back in action at Friars Haugh point-to-point. Although the weather was little wet, we had a great day with the pair front running and jumping fantastically to win the NPPA conditions race! Lucy was also the first novice rider past the post so received the Rubstic trophy. This is only Lucy’s second ride back after breaking her ankle in November and this was a massive boost to both her and the rest of…

It never gets easier

It is with great sadness we report the lost of Captain Kurt this week. He unfortunately broke a hind leg in his race at Kelso. Losing a horse is never easy regardless of what you do with them – Kurtis was breed locally, in Alford, and we had fully produced him from the age of 3 and he really started to show improvement in his most recent hurdles. It all seems very unfair, a young and strong horse who had…

A busy few weeks!

We have been super busy here at Conglass – we are full swing in calving, with Patrick up at all hours to check his cows and we have been all over the place racing! No complaints though as its great to have the horses out and the calves are extremely cute! (pictures below) We had Bright Prospect at Catterick Bridge on 26th February – he made the running and jumped fantastically but unfortunately was slightly disappointing at the finish when…

Frosty February

The end of January and beginning of February brought some very cold weather to Aberdeenshire. We weren’t as effected with snow as some other part of the UK were but we did get the bitter cold below zero temperatures. Leaving everything frozen, including automatic water drinkers for the horses and cows! Most of the days was spent gritting, defrosting and hoping for warmer weather! Persistence was key and we managed to keep going with relatively high spirits, well as high…

On the 8th we had Lovely Schtuff at Ayr in his second chase. He started off keen and out front, jumped well throughout but unfortunately tired and ended up finishing 5th. He bleed a little and cut himself during the race so we will give him some recovery time before his next race. We have had a few horses come back into work recently, the two youngsters had a break over November and December but are happy to be back…

The Last of 2018

On the 28th December, Jackie and Patrick set off to Catterick with Highland Peak where he made his chase debut. He settled, jumped well and managed to finish 4th on a shorter trip than he would ideally like. This was a great effort and we will now look to run him over further. The following day the second lorry set off for Kelso with Captain Kurt and Amilliontimes. Captain Kurt ran in the first, he performed well and held on…

Christmas at Conglass

Where has the year gone? Its been a relatively tough year for us but heres hoping 2019 brings us some luck! We have entries on 28th at Cattrick and 29th at Kelso, weather permitting as per usual, but we should have a couple runners nevertheless. On the 21st we had our annual Christmas party, shared with the farm which gives everyone the chance to met and let their hair down, as well as thanking everyone for their hard work over…
