As always a busy week at Jackie Stephen Racing. All horses are going well and enjoying the warmer climate that has hit Aberdeenshire. We made a start on the building of our 5 new boxes. A busy week last week with 3 runners at Perth on Wednesday evening and 2 at Ladies day on the Thursday. On Wednesday we had Motion To Strike, Ballinvegga and Highland Peak. Motion To Strike ran a great race and in an exciting finish, he was 2nd but a very short distance. A great buzz with a few members of the Jackie Stephen Racing Club there to watch. This week Jackie and Patrick took a trip to Somerset to visit younger daughter Lucy, who is working at Phillip Hobbs. She was riding her horse, LadyVie, in a 4m point-to-point on Saturday. They had a good, safe round with some good jumping but 4miles was a little too far so the pair ended up finishing 5th. Nevertheless a happy and safe ride that will help them both progress. This week we had runners at Perth on Wednesday and Friday. On Wednesday we had Lovely Schtuff in the 2m4f, he had to make the running and jumped great to finish in a pleasing 3rd place. He benefitted from being in the first race due to the fresh ground, however it was much softer than advertised and rode quite deep. This week has been revolved around the string of runners we have entered for the 3 days of Perth on 25th, 26th and 27th April. What a nice week of weather we’ve had and with more to come that should give us better ground for the ever close opening Perth festival. Our local track will be back in action over the summer from 25th April, exciting news for chief lorry driver Patrick as this means shorter journey times! This week involved another trip back down to Carlisle with Midnight Kate and Motion To Strike. Both making a debut, Midnight Kate’s over hurdles and Motion To Strike over chase fences. Midnight Kate ran in a 2m1f race and put in a great effort with some fluent jumping to finish in 5th. This Saturday we had two runners at Carlisle, Bright Prospect and Lovely Schtuff. Lovely Schtuff made his debut over hurdles, he ran up with the pace and put in a pleasing effort to finish in 3rd.
